Wedding Color Trends
Color trends for weddings are continually changing. Each spring designers preview what color or colors they think will be the hot trend for the following year. Fashionistas look to Paris for the latest wedding trends and some of these styles transcend to America, while others just stay as a runway classic that is too bold for the American white aisle.
In the past few years we have seen fashionable new color schemes with jewel tones and classic whites for brides to select from.
In 2008 we even saw the repeated color for wedding gowns in Paris to be black. However, American brides embraced white. Thus, we looked forward to classic white weddings or we turned towards old Hollywood and the black and white wedding combination. Simple, yet sophisticated, this theme is fairly simple to plan. Use white tablecloths, black napkins, black dishes... or reverse this if possible and it isn't too expensive (black tablecloth, white napkins, white plates). For the napkins, have your names and wedding date printed in the opposite color to create personalized napkins and a special touch. Accent the settings with a colored foil-wrapped chocolate rose or a rose candle across the plates or use colored napkin rings (for cloth napkins). Black favor boxes embellished with white satin ribbons will be popular. Black tuxedo favor boxes along with white bride favor boxes) will also make a big come back.
Looking towards color however, brides will be selecting softer colors that coordinate with white.Yellow was all over the runways in past springs, and definitely the in color for weddings. This is great news for brides because yellow is a warm color and brings feelings of happiness. Pale yellows are great for spring weddings, lemon yellows give a citrus punch to summer weddings and deep mustards are beautiful for fall and winter weddings. In the spring lots of gingham and lemon yellow will be combined with matte silver. Wedding reception tables will be highlighted with silver and silver wedding favors will once again be a hit with this wedding color trend. It is predicted that the chrome heart bottle stopper favor will once again be very popular for wedding favors. Along with this trend will be the silver Jordan almonds and the white bon bon favor boxes. Calla Lily themed favors that coordinate with the yellow tones will also be popular for wedding themes. But the color scheme and theme that will stand out is yellow combined with black and yellow sunflowers.
Chocolate Brown is also a color which has been and will continue to be popular. To go with a monochromatic theme select taupe, gold and brown together for an elegant feeling. Chocolate brown is also a neutral color which pairs nicely with both yellow and orange. Brown favor boxes will once again be in demand. However brides looking for change will select the silver color instead to coordinate with the pale yellow or the jewel tones.
Jewel tones are predicted to be big for weddings currently. Rich purples, emerald green, and royal red will be popular. Opulence is a trend with which will be wedding favors of a more elegant and royal nature. Bejeweled favor bags filled with Jordan Almonds or candy will be popular.
Another trend that is in cohesiveness with the simpler wedding affair due to many of the current economic factors as well as the style of the modern bride is the soft vintage style. Wedding colors will have a soft vintage style that gives off a hint of fresh spring colors and at the same time will provide you with rich fall and winter accents. One might even think as far back as the simplicity of an old English 19th century wedding from the times of Jane Austen. The majority of the wedding bouquets reflecting this theme and color pattern will be hand tied with wide satin ribbons. Brides trying to glamorize a little will include brooches or jewel pins with antique charm. In accordance with the theme couples will select useful and personalized wedding favors. In many cases the favors will double as place card holders and table decorations. A vintage wedding favor idea is to arrange your favors as a centerpiece, such as small bouquet of flowers to take home as wedding favors. Wedding favors will be embellished with ribbon and accents that coordinate with the wedding theme and color scheme.
Romantic realism is the key to pulling off this style. Much of the spring colors are inspired from nature and foliage that includes subdued vibrancy such as apple green, sky blue, emerald, pink, dandelion yellow, and mint-green. Brighter color tints are for the summer like orange, yellow, lavender, bright blue, coral, red, emerald and violet. Fall and winter colors should be more rich and earth tones such as dark crimson, olive green, chocolate brown, marigold, plum, fuchsia, royal purple, plum, burnt orange, and navy blue. Accents with these wedding color trends will be browns and grays such as charcoal and mocha.
Keep in mind that if you draw your color inspiration from nature, and the season you are marrying in, your wedding will be beautiful. Colors drawn from nature are always fashionable, yet timeless. Ultimately, the color you select for your wedding should be something you are comfortable with. Select colors you will be able to enjoy in your photographs for years to come.
